An AI tutor that studies from your class material

Most AI chat answers from general knowledge. TurboStudy's tutor answers from your course — your lectures, slides and readings — and cites where each part of the answer came from. When it goes beyond your material, it tells you.

Example

Sample questions from a microeconomics course

Why does marginal cost cross average total cost at its lowest point?

While the cost of making one more unit (marginal cost) is below the average, each extra unit pulls the average down. Once marginal cost rises above the average, each extra unit pulls it up.

So average total cost stops falling and starts rising exactly where the two curves meet — which is its minimum.

Example answers are written by our team to show the format — they are not live AI responses. In the app, the tutor answers from the lectures and readings you upload, cites them, and labels anything that comes from outside your material. AI can make mistakes, so check important points against the cited source.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Upload your course material

The tutor uses what you upload as its main source.

  2. Step 2: Ask anything about the course

Explain a concept, compare two ideas, walk through an example, or quiz you.

  3. Step 3: Check the sources

Answers cite the lecture or reading they're based on; outside knowledge is labelled.

  4. Step 4: Get pointed to what's next

The tutor can see your progress and suggest what to review.

What actually works

Evidence-informed study advice you can use with or without TurboStudy.

Ask better questions

The quality of what you learn from a tutor depends on what you ask. Instead of “explain chapter 4”, try:

  • “Why does…?” and “What would happen if…?” — they force explanations, not definitions.
  • “Give me an example of X that's different from the one in the lecture.”
  • “What's the difference between X and Y? When do students mix them up?”
  • “Quiz me on this topic, one question at a time, and don't give me the answer until I try.”

Explain it back

After the tutor explains something, close the chat and explain it back in your own words — then paste your explanation and ask what you missed or got wrong. Generating an explanation yourself is much more effective than reading a good one, and the gaps it reveals are specific and fixable.

Don't outsource the thinking

A tutor is most useful when you've tried first. On a problem, attempt it, then ask for a hint rather than the full solution. You'll learn more from one hint and a second attempt than from reading a perfect worked answer.

Use the tutor to learn, and follow your course's academic integrity rules on graded work.

Know where an answer came from

When an answer is based on your material, the tutor cites the lecture or reading it used, so you can check it and see the original context. If it needs knowledge your material doesn't cover, that part is labelled “General knowledge” — useful, but worth checking against what your instructor taught.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try the tutor without an account?

The tutor answers from your uploaded course material, so it needs a free account. On this page you can try the free study-guide tool, which explains your pasted notes with key ideas, examples and common mistakes, and see an example of how tutor answers cite their sources.

Does the tutor use my own course material?

Yes. It searches your uploaded lectures, slides and readings and cites the ones it uses. Anything from outside your material is labelled as general knowledge.

Can the AI tutor do my homework?

It's designed to help you understand — explaining, giving examples and quizzing you. Follow your course's rules on getting help with graded work.

How many messages can I send?

20 tutor messages a month on Free, 1,000 on Premium and 3,000 on Pro.

Is the tutor always right?

Grounding answers in your material and citing sources helps, but AI can still make mistakes. Check important points against the cited material.
